I teach at a small elementary/middle school in southeastern KY Robinson Elementary. Most of my students come from low income households. Obesity and unhealthy nutrition choices are everywhere because welfare is a major issue.
School is probably the only place some of these kids have things to play with. I want them to have equipment to help them to be more active and make smart choices. I believe if the students have more options available to them it will benefit everyone involved! I know the other teachers always brag on the students when they have went outside and played super hard. It helps with focus and behavior. A kid that couldn't sit still before recess is then able to come in and get straight to work! We all need to get up and move, especially the kids! I just want to give them some things that makes them want to move more!
