With these materials, students will be able to dissect an owl pellet to find the undigested remains. Owls expel or spit-up the parts of their prey which they cannot digest. These pieces of bones and hair can then be identified, in a CSI type of investigation, to determine the diet of the owl.
Students will have an owl pellet and tools, like the tweezers and magnifying glasses, to exam the undigested remains of owls diet. Students will also have diagrams of a mouse skeleton so they can identify the particular bones they find. Many of the owl pellets contain an entire mouse skeleton for students to find and identify.
