With so much going on, it is easy to get overwhelmed and overstimulated in the classroom. Our curriculum focuses on increasing student collaboration and team work. More small group work, means slightly more noise and movement. While we know that this benefits students greatly, it can also lead to over-stimulation for students who are working through trauma.
Sometimes young students with trauma backgrounds just need a "reset". Using a sensory path can help students "reset" the pathways in their brains, calm down, and feel comfortable again. Once reset, students can head back to class and focus more efficiently, thus improving their capacity for learning. With limited space and time in the school setting, the sensory path provides a quick, teacher and student friendly system that can help to reduce disruptions and minimize student discomfort and stress.
