Students need to be actively engaged in order to promote their learning. By constructing their own planter, planting their own seeds, and monitoring and caring for their plants' students will be able to engage with ancient practices of farming, and be able to brainstorm ways to solve hunger and starvation issues around the world.
Our students are bright and curious, but during this pandemic the light of theirs has dwindled some, so doing this project could brighten them up again both in the classroom and at home. Students in the classroom would maintain their little farm, and harvest the goods. Once harvested the food will be donated to a local food shelter so they can better help their community. The students see the problems in the world, and they want to help. This one little act of solidarity can help their community while acknowledging how instrumental Indigenous practices were to the past and the development of human civilization.
