I want my kids to feel loved, supported, and cared for every day they come to school. That means having both the materials they lack and ones to extend their learning. That means creating an environment that mirrors the care and love I feel for them. I know exactly how I want my class to look and feel but sadly I have been unable to achieve my goals by the simple fact that I don't have the resources. This is why I have come here to find the help I need to help the ones who really matter - my students. Home is not where you go to sleep every night, home is where you feel loved. So many of my students need to find that place, so why not make it the place they spend their whole day? I am requesting classroom materials that many students can neither afford nor keep at home, such as paper, notebooks, and pencils. I also need materials to help hands-on learners and so I have looked through and found the most useful manipulatives for the content I teach.
Math is a lot more than some problems on a piece of paper, so having these things, such as money manipulatives and algebra tiles, they can touch and feel and see lets them unlock that understanding they lacked before. I also have a few things on my list that I want to use to create a warm, comforting room for my students to feel they can learn and relax in. Such things as lights and more flexible seating only have positive effects on the students, which is why they are included. Every one of the things listed is for the enhancement of the environment and education of my students and I hope that you can see that.
