Traditional seating in classrooms works fine for some kids, but if we're being honest... It doesn't work for most. I started my teaching career with 22 traditional desks, and chairs to go with them. I spent a lot of time trying to find ways to include lessons that involved a lot of movement to keep their bodies moving and their brains focused. As an adult, I have a hard time sitting in the same position without zoning out/daydreaming, so I'm able to relate to their struggle.
This year I had some amazing parents reach out to ask what they could donate to my classroom- this is where my love for flex seating began and student accountability began! I currently have a few balls with legs, 2 lap desks, and 2 wobble stools. My students are amazing about sanitizing their seats and taking turns with their peers to be fair. However, on the days they're stuck in the traditional chair, several of them struggle to stay focused and find themselves to be very "fidgety".
With that being said, I would LOVE to surprise my precious kiddos with more flexible seating choices to enhance their academic learning day!
