As a school counselor, providing an environment where self reflection, mindfulness, and sincerity will occur is key. I have chosen a variety of books, sensory/calming items, and therapeutic games to help students express their emotions and feelings. I want students to feel welcomed and safe when they enter my office. I want to create an environment that allows for everyone to have an outlet.
The Next Place by Warren Hansen was a book that was chosen to give to students suffering grief and loss. I have given this book out many times before and it really helps comfort students and families. I have also chosen "stress balls" to be given to students in need of something to take home and help them when they are going through a stressful time. The books will be used for classroom lessons and counseling groups and the games will be utilized for counseling groups specifically.
