I have been lucky enough to teach in a double classroom which means I have an abundance of extra space that is currently going unused. With the new addition of the whiteboard table and wobble stools, students will be able to collaborate on various projects and activities in my American Gothic class; the most exciting project occurs when we read The Shining and students plan, create, and run their own escape room for peers and staff. Through adding these new tables with a whiteboard top, students will be able to brainstorm how they want to transform our space and how they want to incorporate a specific gothic theme into the project. They will be able to build off the ideas of their peers in a fun and visual way.
Flexible seating options will allow students to choose a space in the room where they can focus best. The stools will allow for students to remain engaged while also allowing them to fidget and move when needed. The bungee chair can be pulled up to the table or moved to a separate location for independent reading and work.
The seating options will also serve as a positive incentive for staying on-task and engaged in classroom work since these are two requirements for using the flex seating.
