So far this school year we have completed a novel study on "Stone Fox", “Esio Trot”, “Freckle Juice”, “Bunnicula”, “Charlotte’s Web”, “Sarah, Plain and Tall”, “Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing”, and “The Chocolate Touch”. The students get comfortable in my flexible seating classroom, and we take turns reading aloud.
We discuss the story, make connections, expand vocabulary, and fall in love with a story together. I want to expand my novel study books and classroom library with more choices such as, “Dork Diaries”, “Diary of a Wimpy Kid”, “My Weird School”, “Lemons”, and “Wild Robot”. This will also give my students the ability to have more than one copy of the popular titles that many students always choose to read. I'm hoping that the variety of novel study titles will spark a love of literature, and create the magic of getting lost in a story that they will remember when they are grown.
