This project is our culminating event of the year, embedded in our "Philanthropy and Giving" unit. Over the course of the year, students have learned about saving, budgeting, careers, taxes, investing, retirement, and giving. A common thread woven throughout the curriculum is civic responsibility: how can students use what they have learned to be of service to others?
For their final project, students will use what they have learned in Financial Literacy to create a lesson on saving, spending, and giving, and present that lesson to a group of elementary students.
This project enables my students to give back to their community by educating younger students on basic personal finance skills. At the completion of their lesson, my students will present each elementary student with their very own piggy bank as well as a certificate of completion.
This project benefits not only my students but hundreds of elementary students as well who are able to learn from and interact with older students in a positive setting. My students develop pride and ownership over what they have learned and pass that wisdom along to younger students. The elementary students will be able to use their new piggy bank to put into practice the principles they have been taught. This project empowers all students involved and I would be honored if you would help support this cause!
