Our students are a mix of general education and special education students and we are a general education and special education teacher in a Collaborative Team Teaching (CTT) kindergarten classroom. The students in our class range from 4-6 years old, and Star Book Read Aloud is the highlight of their day. Most of our students come from low-income families, receive free breakfast and lunch daily, are in temporary housing (projects and shelters), and school is their safe and stable place away from tumultuous households. Our school population is predominately Hispanic and African American. This class is truly a group of learners who love revisiting Star Books, which enhances their excitement to read and learn. The satisfaction on their faces when they "read" a Star Book using the pictures and remembering the teacher's words is absolutely priceless! Our students attend a New York City public school.
