We rely heavily on the few scientific calculators that we share among the four math teachers in grades 7-12. Many students try to use calculators on their phone or school supplied iPad. This is challenging for the teachers and students since so many apps are different. Phones and iPads are not allowed on most standardized tests like SAT, ACT, and ISTEP.
My students needs consistent access to technology that they will use daily and also on high stakes testing mandated by the state. They need calculators to have the opportunity to explore the calculator and the many ways that they can use it for problem solving.
