Every day my students struggle to succeed in transitional classroom settings because of their mental health impairments. My students with Autism, ADHD, and severe trauma histories often fall short of their classmates who do not face similar struggles.
I have witnessed how simple tools like weighted vests and wiggle cushions help encourage students to be better learners in the classroom. Research supports my first-hand experience and I feel strongly that my students shouldn't go without these supports simply because many of them live in poverty.
I have purchased a few of these things out of my own pocket, but one weighted vest for 480 students is simply not enough.
