My seventh and eighth grade students attend a public elementary school in a low income neighborhood in an urban city in Illinois. Many of their parents don't speak English, and some of them are the first who will go on to high school in their families. They also all have a diagnosed disability.
They are an extremely inspiring, hardworking group of students who value education and want to be successful. They have seen the sacrifices their parents have made and the struggles their families endure, and they have demonstrated through their efforts that they want to take advantage of their educational opportunities and seek success.
