Flexible seating options allow students to make independent choices in the classroom. They are able to decide what type of learning environment fits them best. Having a variety of seating options allows them to make the choice of how they will learn and where. It gives them the feeling of being in control and provides a more relaxed and open attitude towards learning. They will feel safe taking risks and improve their skills in all subject areas, both academically and socially. Flexible seating helps foster a classroom community of learners who work together toward success.
Not only will this decision making impact their first grade year of learning, but it also sets the stage for the remainder of their educational career and beyond. Good decisions lead to a positive life in every way possible.
Our project includes Wobble chairs for movement while seated and working on classroom assignments, yoga balls for a sensory experience that is less rigid than a typical chair and stools, floor desks, and floor cushions that can easily be moved from location to location to assist in creating a space built upon discussion within groups and sharing new ideas between learners. Each of these items will benefit students during the learning process through the creation of a creative, welcoming and collaborative educational experience.
