With the nation moving towards inclusive settings for students with special needs, my students with special needs are now in co-taught classrooms learning with their age/grade level peers. However, it can be a challenge when they still need small group instruction at a slower pace and with manipulatives (especially for math) as they are educated in the general education classroom. Not only am I serving and educating students with special needs, but also I am providing support to those general education students who may need extra support to access grade level curriculum.
As a special education teacher who co-teaches with a general education teacher, funding my project will allow me to better serve all my students (both gen-ed and special-ed) and differentiate instruction to their level so they can be successful and engaged in the curriculum with new supplies that benefits all students.
Differentiating instruction is difficult to do when supplies are needed. Therefore, giving my students an easel, where a teacher or an aide can teach a small group of students will benefit all.
