We live on the beautiful coast of Maine, and have access to ocean beaches. Each fall our students participate in the Coastal Cleanup Project, and comb the beaches for trash. They tally their findings, and consistently notice how many plastic drinking bottles there are. They wonder what else they could do to eliminate plastic waste, especially the plastic in the oceans.
Students can learn first hand that by refilling water bottles, not only do they maintain good health by drinking fresh water, they reduce the amount of plastic in their environment.
The water fountain will enable an appreciation for cleanliness. They will have water available throughout the day to maintain health. Plus the fountain has a Green Ticker display that informs user of the number of 20 oz plastic water bottles saved from one time use waste. School pride will spread to student's families and throughout the community creating a far-reaching impact.
