I would love to give students the opportunity to annotate in a book while they are reading rather than trying to take notes on paper from class sets of books. Some of my students can buy their own books, but many cannot. My students are mostly minority and mostly from hard-working families who just do not make enough money for extras. This set would help those disadvantaged students have the same experience as the ones who can afford to buy the book themselves. Marking up their books with questions in the margins, underlining favorite quotes and character descriptions and new vocabulary is essential for becoming an active, engaged reader! I know it always enhances my understand of a book! With social media and texting, many students read very little and even when they do, comprehension of difficult texts is a struggle. I want to teach them how to make that a little less scary!
