When working and collaborating with the physical and occupational therapists on my team, it is clear that the way materials are presented can support and enable learning or hinder the access to educational materials. Good posture and alignment, trunk and head alignment, pelvic stability, and leg and foot positioning can make a significant impact when educating students with orthopedic impairments.
Having three height adjustable desks would allow students to access educational materials, no matter what style of chair, wheelchair, positioning equipment, stander, etc that they are in. I plan to use them throughout my classroom to complete academic tasks, fine motor tasks, etc. throughout the school day. I would also like to try using a table at meal times. Currently, my tables are too low and students cannot roll their wheelchairs up to the kitchen tables. This would allow much more ideal seating for working on self feeding goals.
