Students with Autism have different ways to express and represent their knowledge. They have various challenges with fine motor and gross motor skills that may impede how they are able to represent and express their knowledge. I would like to be able to make my classroom more universal and have adapted materials available for my students to use. Adaptive scissors will help my students be able to cut out paper independently when we do science and social studies projects. Some students have yet to develop the strength to be able to hold and write with a pencil. The weighted hand glove will not only help them strengthen their hand muscle but will give them the means to write their names, draw and write to show what they have learned, comprehended and what they want to communicate. We need heavy duty headphones so that each student may be able to access various computer programs that help them develop their reading and math skills while withstanding daily use. These adapted materials will ensure that we are providing my students with multiple ways to engage in different activities that neuro-typical peers are able to engage in. These will also provide them with opportunities to express and represent their knowledge and show the world how hard-working and smart they really are in spite of some barriers. Thank you!
