This project involves students reading books of their own choosing in small groups. Choosing their own book gives students ownership over their learning, and helps them become invested in their own success. Students will work through these books as a team in order to scaffold the tools they will need to read independently. Motivation is an incredibly important part of academic success, and this project will help motivate students to read independently and show students that they have the tools to navigate through complex texts. The goal of this project is to create a comfortable classroom space that is conducive to reading independently and reading "for fun," and motivate students to continue to apply independent reading skills to texts of their choosing outside of school.
