I love reading. I’ve always loved it. Growing up, my mom read to me and I saw myself in the characters of the stories we read. Reading transported me and gave me an alternate universe to live in when things got tough or scary or unbearable. Some of my kids don’t know that books can do that.
I want them to feel the power of what reading can do when they can relate and empathize and use literature as a mirror to understand themselves.
Help me give the gift of literature to students who yearn for more but don’t know how to access it. Let’s help them learn to love reading because they can see themselves in the characters and can see their struggles in the stories. Reading is a gift, and these kids are gifted! I know that they will do great things with access to high-interest, accessible texts!
