In education, we all know to well the lingering achievement gap that loom over our students, like a rain cloud. Through research, due to the lack of culturally relevant materials, students are not able to make the connection, with text, with this lack of cultural representations, and they feel as if they don't matter. Therefore, why try?!! However, with culturally relevant material (literature) students are able to see themselves represented, feel they matter, and will succeed!! With that said, this will produce a feeling of self worth and will inevitably drive them to be successful, in and outside the classroom.

About my class
