Always on the lookout for innovative physical activities that will increase children’s success in the classroom, I've come across speedstacking as a perfect activity to achieve that.
By incorporating speed stacking with fitness principles, my students reap triple the benefits (fitness building, new skills acquisition, academic improvement), all hidden under the guise of fun!
Speedstacking study results show improvement in cross-pattern brain development, visual processing, hand-eye coordination, bilateral coordination and sequencing/patterning skills, all important in developing reading/math skills. According to researcher/author Jean Blaydes Madigan “What makes us move, makes us think”. Thus, if we teach our students to move better, they will become better thinkers, right?
This novel unit will add a fresh element to my students’ experience, both in PE and in the regular classroom!
