I have been working with the students at the Juvenile Detention Center to transform our library into a space that we are proud of. We have divided the books that we have by genre and labeled them accordingly. We have alphabetized. We have repaired books that are showing wear. Now, we are ready to begin growing our collection and replacing books that are beyond repair.
The books that I have requested, will be added to our school library. These books are read while students are in their cells. Reading during their time in their cells provides the opportunity for continued learning, a mental break, and an opportunity to develop a love of reading that can last a lifetime.
