Although I love continuing the act of reading aloud to my students, there is something to be said about the students independently reading the story. It gets into their head, their heart, and their soul. They personally feel the emotions and experiences of the main character.
By placing this book, The Boy In the Striped Pajamas, into the hands of each student, we will be able to not only experience the history, but also incorporate the reading strategies of text analysis. We will work through the vocabulary, the author's purpose, and how the author constructs the text to allow the reader to comprehend what is happening and the impact of the story.
