Kids who jump, squat and move their bodies may learn more effectively than students in typical sedentary classrooms, a new study suggests. The research, involving 500 Grade 2 and 3 children, found those who learned in physically active classes tested better academically than kids who sat at their desks. The findings were published in the journal Pediatrics. Current seating is in my room consists of traditional , four-legged chairs. Students desperately try to rock and sway in these, sometime falling out of the seat and getting hurt. For many of my students, their constant movement is involuntarily, they don't even realize they're doing it. My hope is to provide seating for these students so they can move and not restrain them from the motion that is helping them stay focused and learn.
