This Cheese Mat can be a great learning tool for all students with special needs in our early childhood resource center where many of our students are late in reaching developmental milestones, including gross motor skills. It can be used many in different ways. As a part of an obstacle course, the mat can teach my students to:
• climb up and down
• roll and tumble
• jump and hop
• reenact stories
• cooperative play
• follow instructions
• bring smiles to their faces
The Cheese Mat will help my students improve their muscular strength and endurance, postural control and body awareness, balance and coordination. By teaching these motor skills, I can enable children to perform better everyday functions, such as walking, sitting upright, running and self-help skills.
