Do you remember your first few years of elementary school? Spending your days creating, exploring your curiosities, and playing with friends? A child's early years are the foundation for their academic and social development. And while my students work hard to meet the rigorous demands of our second grade state standards, they also need opportunities to collaborate, problem solve and think critically, daily. They need time to develop their social cognition. The Brain Bin materials in this project will provide my students with opportunities to explore, create, build and work cooperatively with their peers during the first 8-10 minutes of our day.
Starting each day with Brain Bin time will make my students eager to come to school everyday and experience a fun and happy tone to the school day while allowing them time to wake up, warm up and get ready to think! Working with the Brain Bins, my students will be developing their creativity, imagination, oral language, social skills, curiosity and vocabulary. The skills that I will be able to foster and develop in my students in a very short amount of time, while my students explore these materials will benefit their overall success - both academically and socially.
