The current cubbies we have in classroom one are old, broken, and falling apart. The dividers are continuously breaking and then have to be removed for safety reasons. Because of this, the children are losing their defined, personal space where they keep their belongings. They have no space for their jackets, hats, clothes, and personal artwork and projects they are working on. Having new cubbies would not only be safer, but provide them with a space of their own. The children would be so grateful for a spot to put all of their personal items.
Not only would the new cubbies provide the children their own space, but it would help to optimize the space in their learning environment. Our classroom is arranged with tile and carpet and a lot of the learning space needs to be on the carpeted area. Having the smaller stacked cubbies would create so much more space for the kids to have bigger play areas and more things in those areas.
