We have been practicing and studying volume and area. I had the kids discover how much volume each kind of fish needs. Then, we went through and picked out different decorations and ideas for our tank. The kids want to be able to care for something and see how hard it is to be responsible for another living thing.
Most of the kids in my room have younger siblings that they must care for. They read to them, feed them, and watch them while both parents work. To be able to showcase their maturity and responsibility would be an amazing opportunity.
Being able to have a space where they can relax and be responsible will give them an outlet for their issues at home. They will have a calming experience with the fish. Issues in our class can be greatly reduced if they have something else to put their focus on!
