By having the flexible seating option in our classroom, my students will benefit tremendously. While we complete tasks in whole group or small group, the flexible seating, fidgets, and sensory tools can keep my students focused for a longer period of time. By allowing my students to have the option to choose a form of flexible seating, it gives them a voice within our classroom. The quality of the work and their engagement will improve dramatically, due to my students focusing on the work, rather than fidgeting in their seats. While I give my students the option to move around the classroom during activities, such as the carpet or the floor, this will provide them with the movement that could benefit them right from their desks. All of my students can benefit from these tools in some way or another, which is why it is so important for our classroom. My students can choose to sit on the floor with their wobble cushions, or use them at their desk. If that is not providing enough movement for them, they can choose a wobble chair to get those wiggles out! The bouncy bands can also have the same effect as the cushions. Therefore, it gives the other students of mine the opportunity to benefit as well. The weighted animal will serve its purpose during a read aloud on the carpet, and can be shared between students. Lastly, the fidgets can be used during an activity or can be an incentive to complete any given task. This project will enhance our classroom immensely and our engagement levels will be through the roof!
