When students sensory needs are met they are more available to learn and make gains towards their IEP goals. Sensory integration encourage brain development in young children.
Sensory integration helps students learn body awareness, motor planning, and coordination. By providing our students with a wide variety of sensory materials in the classroom we will be able to encourage their development. When students do not receive the needed sensory input they are prone to behavioral and emotional problems within the classroom. This impacts a child's ability to learn. For students who struggle with sensory input Occupational therapy is not enough. We need to provide materials within the classroom to meet these needs.
