Scholastic Scope magazine is a monthly subscription magazine that provides many different types of texts: information articles, fiction, narrative non-fiction, debates, drama, and poetry. It comes with resources for the teacher like video clips to make the stories come to life.
The content is engaging for middle school aged students. The activities are fun for students too, like a monthly writing contest. Students are given the opportunity to practice the three types of writing: narrative, informative, and argument. Scholastic Scope also provides comprehension questions that ask the students to dive deep into the text and analyze text features.
Finally, there is an online component that lets students hone in on their technology skills as well as share an intriguing article with family at home.
