We are requesting ten copies of House Built on Ashes is a memoir by Jose Antonio Rodriguez. This novel contemplates the promises, limitations, and contradictions of the American dream.
For years I have relied upon the Cannon of World Literature to enrich the understanding of my honors students. My AP students deserve literature that not only challenges them, but they also deserve to see themselves represented between the pages. The themes explored in House Built on Ashes will evoke political, social, and cultural realities. It is an inter-sectional memoir that blends multiple mirrors of the self. It is a deeply personal story of the American Dream.
This book will connect my students to their own story. This will be a mentor text to help them learn to write literary essays that are complex, and in-depth.
