After teaching 5th grade for 15 years I am returning to my roots and teaching 2nd grade. I have a library fit for a 5th grader, but my classroom library is lacking in books that are appropriate for 2nd graders to read independently at their level. I am writing this project so that I can begin to gather books that will help turn my new 2nd graders into avid readers. I have chosen a variety of topics from kindness, STEM, influential leaders, and award-winning books for 2nd graders. If my students are interested in the books, then they will be interested in reading. If they are interested in reading, then everything else will fall into place.
