First grade is the year students are expected to make the most significant progress in learning to read and work independently. I have found that carpet time gets us the most bang for our buck. Bringing them to the carpet helps them stay focused and gets them out of their chair for awhile. The one problem we run into, is that our carpet is not big enough for everyone to fit. I would like to offer a spot for all of my students to enjoy. I feel if each of my students have a place to sit and to call their own, we will be able to start our routine faster, as well as stay focused longer.
