Every year our media center challenges students in grades 3-5 to read all fifteen of the Sunshine State Young Reader books. If they read the book and get an 80% or better on the AR test, they place a sticker by their name. Students receive rewards throughout the year for reading the books. Five books = free pizza, ten books = ice cream sundae, and if they read all fifteen books, they are rewarded with free Chick-Fil-A at the end of the year. Having these books readily available in the library will provide students with this opportunity. They won't have to wait long periods to get the book they would like to read to achieve their goal.
This project will help the students learn to persevere and become stronger readers!
Some of these books are higher reading levels or have over 200 pages, but if students can look past the levels or length and pick up the books, I know they will find they can read them and not get discouraged
