My goal with my students this year is to help them learn that every single person can be successful at learning math. There are, however, many types of learning styles, and we also all come with our own experiences and backgrounds.
For those students who have struggled with math in the past, having access to multiple ways to learn each concept by using hands on math tools (manipulatives) can completely change their both their outlook on math, and their outlook on their personal ability to succeed!
I want to meet each student where they are at with their learning and help them to fill in any gaps they may have that might make moving forward difficult for them. I want each student to be able to come to me and expect that if they did not understand the concept one way it was taught, that I'll have another method and other tools in my arsenal to help them understand it. I don't want them to ever give up! I want them to believe in me, to believe in the notion that everyone can be successful, and most of all, to believe in themselves! I am confident that having these materials to teach my kids will help this happen in my class this year!
