In our current module of study, students build their literacy and science skills as they engage in a study of fossils. Through science and story, they learn what paleontologists do, how fossils are made, and what fossils can tell us about the past.
The requested fossil dig kits will give my students an opportunity to have a memorable hands-on experience simulating what paleontologists do. They will use tools to excavate fossils and record information about their dig sites. They will also use this experience as their topic for a narrative writing piece.
Students will exhibit perseverance, responsibility, and initiative as they excavate their very own fossils and document their findings! This is sure to be a memorable experience for my second graders!
