Finding relevant, engaging, and appropriate nonfiction is essential in promoting critical thinking, reading, and writing that I strive for my students to be able to do in a high school classroom.
These magazines will provide inspiration and evidence for productive group discussions, research and argumentative writing, debates, and analytical thinking. Students will also be able to connect modern day topics and events to themes within literature, highlighting how authors draw upon timeless and universal topics to teach readers about the world around them. Using this type of nonfiction allows me to promote authentic literacy experiences within an English classroom.
