My 10th - 12th grade English Language Arts/College Prep ACT/SAT classroom is currently very functional and practical. There are posters strategically arranged, hung above filing cabinets and ancient bookshelves. I must sadly admit, it does not physically mirror the learning that my co-teachers and I inspire on a daily basis like the joys of OF MICE AND MEN, writing a successful persuasive argument, or mastering an ACT English passage drill.
"From pumpkin to carriage", it is time for my classroom to receive a drastic makeover to reflect the magic that takes place inside of its walls on a daily basis. I am requesting stadium chairs and seat cushions so that my students can read the likes of Fitzgerald, Thomas, Hawthorne, Reynolds, Miller, Yang, and Sanchez in a manner in which they are comfortable. This type of seating will allow them to serenely talk, read, and write about complex issues individually or in flexible small groups (hence the need for portable dry erase clipboards as well).
I am also asking for decor (rugs and posters) to help our room to have more of an inviting feel as students engage in higher order thinking and learning. Lastly, I am requesting supplies (reusable 3 ring binder supply pouches) will help my students to remain organized within their interactive binders.
Funding this project will be sincerely appreciated and give students the classroom environment and materials they deserve as they hone the skills necessary for their post-secondary endeavors.
