My students have traditionally had more academic needs. Throughout this school year, I have gotten more students whose needs range more toward needing the skills for independent living and self-care. The independent learning centers that I have are academic and require reading and math skills. I have very little in my classroom geared toward independent work centers that my new students can access and use appropriately.
I want to bring more independent materials into my classroom, so I can continue to provide small group, individualized instruction. When students are engaged in independent learning centers, I can pull smaller groups of students for instruction, and I am better able to meet their needs.
