When you walk into a classroom full of students, you expect them to be working hands-on with a variety of materials. You鈥檒l see students using pencils and paper to write an essay to persuade you to let them have extra recess. You鈥檒l see students answering math questions on their whiteboards as they work steadily to solve the problem correctly. You鈥檒l see students sharpening their pencils to help them create a masterpiece while using erasers to fix their mistakes. You鈥檒l see students using markers and highlighters to bright up their page as they read an article and find something new they learned. All these materials, and more, are used in the classroom daily to enhance the students learning experience.
By donating to this project, you won鈥檛 only be helping a teacher gather materials needed for her classroom; you will be supporting student success. With most of my students coming from low-income homes while also dealing with struggles of their own, it is nice to know that they can come to school and have the supplies they need to help them achieve their dreams and become better learners.
For students to become better learners, they first need to take care of their emotional and physical wellbeing鈥檚. The book I鈥檝e added to my list is, 鈥淭he Best Part of Me鈥. I鈥檝e added this book because I鈥檝e seen how this book influences students in a variety of classrooms, and it truly helps each child understand their beauty and worth. Working with students who mostly come from low-income homes, they often feel a lack of self-love, and it truly affects how they treat themselves and those around them. If they can take care of themselves emotionally and physically, they can and will be successful academically.
