These materials already have a place in our day! Every day we begin with a “soft start”, where students start the day with exploring—this is where the blocks and builder sets come in. Students are free to explore and be creative with tools in the mornings, and challenged to create for a specific purpose at different parts of our day, especially during science and social students.
Using the books from Scholastic, we will also use these tools to take on challenges such as creating a house for the Three Little Pigs, creating a safety net for Humpty Dumpty, or even creating the ultimate dream house.
During the week we also have “Tech Tuesday” and Freedom Fridays where we code. These Robot Mice will an exciting addition to our iPad coding activities. These first grade explorers will use these materials to continue to deepen their learning through asking questions, collaborating with others and take risks to develop ideas.
