Graphic novels provide the high interest content and easier language building these strengths. Reading comprehension and fluency can be practiced and improved more easily when the content is reachable.
Students will learn to express deeper meaning through comparing and contrasting characters and relating it to their own lives. They will develop language skills by recognizing meanings in context and practicing using new language in writing. They will acquire new vocabulary words. Students will create a chart using symbolism and the many uses of figurative language within the novel.
