I work at an LAUSD continuation school with an AMAZING group of kids who have not been successful in comprehensive schools so for various reasons found their way to us. These students have been through some crazy stuff and are with us because they are motivated to finish high school. I have three periods of science class each day where I teach a combination of chemistry, earth science, and biology. We have a separate health and art class but I often combine components of all of these, including art. Art has become a key way for students to connect with content. We also maintain a school garden and incorporate lesson in our garden throughout all of our classes. We have around 45 to 50 students at any given time and students return to us each year until they graduate so we get to know them really well. This year (2022-23) we and are on track to graduate 9 students who probably wouldn't have graduated otherwise!
