Kindergarten students are often distracted by many stimuli in class, and that could make them slow in their learning rate. By providing a special environment to focus on phonics and early writing, we can improve their learning and make sure they stay focus and get the most out of their independent work time. This Reading and Phonics corner I want to create, will provide a set of resources and rules to explore the whole experience of learning phonics (specially important for ELL and Bilingual classes), find a calm and isolated place to read, and also start writing about their own stories. With a flexible sitting arrangement (bean bag, pillows, or rug), and adequate resources like headphones to hear themselves and boards to picture (and later write) their stories, I am intended to motivate students to really take the time to go trough letters and words and walk out with measurable outcomes, such as tasks completed, letters sound mastered and books read.
