In first grade, students gather at the rug for lessons three to four times a day. Students engage in reading, writing, speaking and listening activities while at the rug. The current rug my students sit on now, is actually two smaller, frayed rugs that are taped together to keep them from sliding around. The space is small, dark and it is difficult to fit all the students in one place.
This new rug will fit all the students comfortably and allow them their own personal space. The bright colors and images of this rug promote enthusiasm in learning. Giving them this space will help create a warm and welcoming environment for my students.
