Students enter first grade with basic letter sound and word knowledge. By the end of first grade students can be reading beginning chapter books! Reading growth in first grade is fundamental and key for success in elementary grades. Reading comprehension is often something that holds students back from moving on to harder texts. This is why hands-on materials, such as the Lakeshore Storytelling Kits, support their comprehension and can enhance their reading skills so they can continue to move forward as readers! As students engage in their stories by becoming the characters, acting out parts of the story and identifying story elements through play their comprehension grows!
